Curtis Lee Bowman, Jr., 58, of Warrenton, Va., passed away on Saturday May 23, 2015.
A native of Waynesboro, Va., he worked for Scripps Media, formerly Scripps Howard News Service, for 37 years, first at The Pittsburgh Press in Pittsburgh and then as a National Correspondent in the Washington, D.C. bureau. Prior to working with Scripps, he started his award winning journalistic career with his hometown paper, The News-Virginian in Waynesboro where he developed and fostered his passion for reporting, writing and story-telling.
He was a proud graduate of the University of Virginia, an avid history buff and voracious reader. He was a devoted father, loving husband and steadfast colleague who shared his wealth of knowledge freely and encouraged others in their journalistic endeavors.
He enjoyed coaching and fostering a love of the game in his children and countless others. A true fan of baseball and softball he watched his kids play from Little League through their college careers.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Patricia Lynn Ballentine Bowman; his son, James Lee Bowman; and his daughter, Christine Elizabeth Bowman, all of Warrenton, Va.
As an avid dog lover, he will be missed by his furry companions, Scout, Striker, Stretch and Shortstop.
He was preceded in death by his father, Curtis Lee Bowman Sr.; and his mother, Myrlynn Zink Bowman of Waynesboro, Va.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2015 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Moser Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 29, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Greenwich Presbyterian Church in Nokesville, Va. A reception will follow the burial at Bright View Cemetery, 8265 Lunsford Rd., Warrenton, Va. at the Greenwich Presbyterian Church.
